NTA Issues JEE Main 2026 Exam Day Advisory; Mandates Aadhaar Biometric Authentication at Centre

On the JEE Main 2026 exam day, there will be an Aadhaar-based biometric verification process at all exam centres. NTA has thus issued some new exam guidelines on January 20, today, for candidates that they should ensure are met before they reach the exam centre and on the exam day. JEE Main 2026 session 1 exam will start tomorrow, January 21 and will be held on January 22, 23, 24, 28 and 29.

Mandatory Aadhaar-based biometric verification

Candidates are advised to ensure that their Aadhaar biometric authentication is not locked on the day of the examination. This is essential to facilitate a smooth and uninterrupted Aadhaar-based biometric verification process at the designated examination centres.

Apart from the biometric attendance and frisking at entry, if a candidate goes bio-break/toilet, he/she should undergo the mandatory frisking and biometrics again.

Reporting time for Non-Aadhaar Candidates

Candidates were provided an option to register through Aadhaar. Those candidates who did not register through Aadhaar (or chose authentication through non-Aadhaar options) need to report early on the day of the examination (at least 1 hour before the gate closing time) to get their biometrics recorded at the exam centre.

Carry Photo Verification Certificate for Candidates with Live Photographs Mismatch Issue

NTA has sent emails to a few candidates regarding a mismatch between the Live photo and the photographs available in their Aadhaar during the filling of the application form. Such candidates were asked to upload a photo verification certificate by January 15.

These candidates have to carry the requisite certificate in original, duly signed/attested by the Principal /Head Master or any Class-I Gazetted Officer, such as Tehsildar, Revenue Officer, SDM, DM/Class-I Gazetted Officer ofthe Indian Embassy (for NRI candidates), as per the format shared in their registered email ID.

Carry Atleast Two Photographs on the Exam Day

The candidates must carry at least two passport photographs. One passport-sized photograph (same as uploaded with the Online Application Form) is to be pasted on the Attendance Sheet at the Centre.

Important NTA JEE Main 2026 Advisory - These Things Have to Be Carried At Exam Centre

Candidates have been asked to carry the following on the JEE Main 2026 exam day apart from :

  • Admit Card downloaded from the NTA Website (a clear, preferably colour printout on A4 size paper)
  • Valid Photo ID Proof as uploaded in online application form in ORIGINAL. Photocopies or images stored on mobile phones etc. will NOT be accepted. (Note: No Candidate will be allowed to enter the Examination Centre, without identity verification).
  • PwD/PwBD certificate (If applicable).
  • For the Drawing Test-Part III of B. Arch., the candidate must bring their own Geometry Box Set, Pencils, Erasers, and Colour Pencils or Crayons. The candidates are not allowed to use watercolours on drawing sheet.
  • Diabetic students will be allowed to carry eatables like sugar tablets/fruits (like bananas/apples/oranges) and transparent water bottles to the Examination Hall/Room. However, they will not be allowed to carry packed foods like chocolates/candy/sandwiches, etc.

Dress Code Related Instructions

NTA has already mentioned on the admit card of JEE Mains that shoes with thich sole and garments with large buttons are not allowed.

Apart from that, NTA has allowed Sikh candidates to wear religious articles, ie "KARA" and "KIRPAN".

NTA has also instructed that candidates reporting beyond the gate closing time of the centre will not be allowed to enter the test venue.

Q:   How many days are left for JEE Mains 2026?
A:

JEE Main 2026 session 1 exam will be held between January 21 to 30. Two more days remain until the Session 1 exams. Candidates can also appear for the JEE Main 2026 Session 2 exams, to be held between April 2 and 9.

Q:   What is JEE Mains 2026 exam date session 2?
A:

NTA has announced the JEE Main 2026 exam date for session 2. JEE Main 2026 session 2 exam will be held from April 2, 2026, to April 9, 2026. JEE Main 2026 session 2 registration will start in the last week of January 2026. The JEE Main Application Form 2026 session 2 will be available on the website jeemain.nta.nic.in. The JEE 2026 session 1 exam will be conducted from Jan 21, 2026, to Jan 30, 2026.

Q:   When will NTA release JEE Main exam city slip 2026?
A:

JEE Main city intimation slip 2026 for session 1 was released on January 8 at jeemain.nta.nic.in. JEE Mains City slip have details about the JEE Main exam city in which the candidate is allotted the centre to appear in the exam and the date of exam. It helps candidates to plan their travel to the JEE Main exam centre in advance. JEE Main city intimation slip is different from the admit card.
