Not the first incident
This is not the first such incident. In November 2021, a first-year student of RGUKT allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room. He also left behind a suicide note, which stated that he was not being to focus on his studies due to personal reasons and hence took the extreme step.
The cases of suicide at premier technical institutions in the country has been on the rise and according to the data shared by the Education Ministry, a total of 122 students of Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), central universities and other centrally funded higher educational institutions committed suicide during 2014-21.
