According to latest information, RPET has been discontinued by the Rajasthan government from this year onwards. The reason behind scrapping the exam is supposedly the increasing number of seats in the state versus the decrease in the number of aspirants getting admitted through RPET (Rajasthan Pre Engineering Test). The admissions to engineering colleges in Rajasthan will now be on the basis of scores attained in JEE Main exam conducted by CBSE.

As per a national daily, 50% of the seats in the state will be filled in through JEE and the rest 50% through Class 12th marks. However, according to sources, there is no clarity on this as such. Sources reveal that admissions to the colleges in Rajasthan from this academic year will be offered on a normalization process which will be based on the marks attained in JEE Main 2015 and class XII.

But, admissions to these colleges from next year will only be on the basis of JEE Main score. Also, students from the Rajasthan Board will be given a rebate during admissions but the complete information on this is still not revealed.

The Board of Technical Education, Rajasthan decided the same in a meeting conducted by a committee of nine members formed to formulate admission process to the colleges in Rajasthan. The committee has formed the admission formalities taking care of the reservation of seats for students outside Rajasthan and management seats.

Out of all the engineering seats in Rajasthan, only 15-20% of them were being filled via RPET. Considering this scenario, the existence of this exam came into question. Infact, the committee too proposed for the discontinuation of the very exam.

Amongst so many confusions, shiksha.com is still trying to get a clear picture of the admission process in engineering colleges in Rajasthan.
