TNEA 2025: Over 2.4 Lakh Students to Compete for 1.72 Lakh BE/BTech Seats in Tamil Nadu
TNEA 2025 counselling is ongoing for UG engineering admissions in Tamil Nadu. Recently, the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) has released the data for UG engineering seats available for the academic session 2025-26. Check all details below.
Tamil Nadu consistently ranks as the state with the highest number of undergraduate engineering seats each year. The seat matrix of the participating colleges in TNEA 2025 counselling was recently uploaded on the official website - tneaonline.org, for the general academic & vocational category as well as for the government quota academic & vocational category.
As per the seat matrix, this year, a total of 1,72,388 BE/BTech seats are available across all colleges for the general academic category. 3,01,026 candidates have registered for TNEA counselling, and out of them, 2,47,938 have paid the application fee, and 2,24,102 have uploaded their documents successfully. This means around 2.4 lakh candidates will be competing for 1.72 UG engineering seats available via TNEA counselling 2025.
The TNEA 2025 counselling process is ongoing. Currently, the counselling is ongoing for the Government (7.5%) special reservation categories. The main counselling rounds for the general category candidates will start on July 14. The main counselling will be held in three rounds. Round 1 will be held for candidates with TNEA ranks between 1 to 39145 (scores 200 to 179). The TNEA counselling 2025 round 1 choice filling will be held from July 14 to 16, and the tentative allotment will be out on July 17. Candidates will have to complete the tentative allotment confirmation from July 17 to 18. On July 19, the allotment letters will be released. The candidates with allotment letters will have to join and report at the TFCs from July 19 to 23. The candidates who opted for the upgradation of seats will be issued their allotment letters on July 26.
Round 2 of the TNEA 2025 counselling will be held for candidates with ranks 39146 to 137710, and round 3 will be for candidates with TNEA ranks of 137711 to 239299. All three TNEA counselling rounds will include choice filling, allotment, confirmation of allotment, reporting to the college/TFC and payment of fees.

The TNEA 2026 document verification at the TFC was held in June 2026. The uploaded certificates are subjected to verification at the TFCs selected by the candidates in the online application form. The Certificate uploading and verification procedure is intimated after the completion of the registration process. While verifying the documents uploaded during TNEA 2026 registration, candidates have to follow the following steps:
If the status shown is Incomplete, candidates have to scan all the required certificates as a single pdf file and upload it.
After uploading they must freeze the upload and logout.
If the status shown is 'upload not completed and Upload status as Not started', scan all the certificates as a single pdf file and upload.
After uploading freeze the upload and logout.
If the status shown is 'In Progress', it indicates that Certificate verification is under process.
If the status shown is 'Completed successfully', then it indicates that Certificate verification is completed successfully for that Application.
TNEA 2026 Random Number will be out in June 2026. Registered candidates have to sign in by entering login Id/email Id and password to view their unique random number allotted by the authority. The conducting body also informs all the registered candidates about the assigned random number of TNEA 2026 through SMS. The random number will be a 10 digit number that will be allotted to the candidates randomly. Candidates have to verify their documents at TFCs as per their assigned TNEA random number.

- Navigate to the candidate login page
- On the login page, enter your email ID/login ID, password, and captcha code
- The TNEA random number will be displayed on the screen
- View your random number and save it for future references.

TNEA stands for Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions. The Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu conducts TNEA every year. It is an online counselling window. All Indian National candidates who wish to take admission to Government and Government Aided Engineering Colleges, University Departments and Constituent Colleges of Anna University, Annamalai University and for the seats surrendered by Self-Financing Engineering Colleges in Tamil Nadu have to apply for TNEA counselling.
TNEA counselling is a Unified Single Window Admission System for Indian Nationals only. The courses offered via this online counselling are BE/BTech and BE (sandwich) courses. TNEA counselling is conducted online in 4 rounds as per the schedule. Candidates need to participate in corresponding rounds based on their rank.
