WBJEE 2026 Counselling: Jadavpur and Calcutta University Record High Number of Vacant Seats

West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) have completed the centralized WBJEE 2026 counselling process. With the conclusion of the centralized counselling, two of the highly sought participating institutes of WBJEE 2026 have announced a high number of vacant seats, as compared to previous years’.

JU and CU Report Spike in Number of Vacant WBJEE Seats

Jadavpur University has reported that out of 1190 engineering seats, 378 are currently vacant. This is a sharp increase as compared to previous years’, when the number of vacant seats ranged between 150 to 180. In Jadavpur University, popular engineering departments such as Computer Science and Engineering still have 20 vacant seats, and Electrical Engineering has around 50 vacant seats.

Similarly, Calcutta University has also reported 168 vacant seats after the third round of WBJEE counselling 2026 was held. In the previous years’, CU had around 20 to 30 vacant seats after counselling process concluded.

According to the professors of both institutes, this increase in number of vacant seats is a result of the introduction of fresh registration and choice filling for each round of WBJEE counselling. This allowed students to skip seats in the hope of securing a better choice in the next counselling round. The official notification about WBJEE 2026 decentralised counselling also prompted students to leave their allotted seats for chance in other institutes.

Will WBJEE 2026 Decentralised Counselling Be Held?

WBJEEB has released official notification regarding WBJEE decentralised counselling 2026. According to the notification, all vacant seats will be available through the online decentralised counselling. However, the number of seats and participating colleges are still to be announced. More details about the process is expected to be released anytime soon.
