Director of Education Bhushan Sawaikar made the announcements regarding the reopening of schools for all classes amid the declining cases of the novel coronavirus.

Goa School Reopening: The government of Goa has announced its decision to reopen schools for all classes, i.e. Class 1 to 12 from February 21 onwards. Director of Education Bhushan Sawaikar made the announcements regarding the reopening of schools for all classes amid the declining cases of the novel coronavirus.

The official order released by the government said, “As Covid-19 cases are reducing day by day in the state, it is decided by the competent authority to re-open all the educational institutions from Class 1 to Class 12 from February 21 by following COVID-19 appropriate behaviour and as per SOP guidelines enclosed.”

Schools that had only partially reopened late last year following a drop in cases for students of the higher classes were shut following a reoccurrence of cases owing to the Omicron wave of the virus.

Meanwhile, the state hadn’t reopened primary and middle schools yet for students to attend offline classes since they were shut at the time of the onset of the pandemic in March 2020. To avoid academic losses, the authorities asked schools to hold online classes for students.

Earlier, the government conducted a review meeting with the member of the expert committee on COVID-19 handling. During the advisory session, Dr Shekhar Salkar had said that it was advisable to restart schools for students given that the numbers have been reducing and the risk remains as low as it has ever been since the start of the pandemic.
