The Gujarat Board has cancelled the GSEB Class 10 examinations and has decided to mass promote the Class 10 students. The same was announced on May 13 by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. Thereafter, the federal government appointed a committee to look into the problems arising from the mass promotion to Class 10 students. However, there’s widespread apprehension about how the problem of giving admission to college students planning to pursue engineering diplomas. The problem is especially significant for students who wish to pursue diploma courses in the Engineering field.

The appointed committee is wanting a choice of conducting an entrance exam for college students planning to pursue a diploma after Class 10. If a new record for diploma admissions is to be ready primarily based on the entrance then this may pose a problem for college students from rural areas. In simpler words, conducting an entrance exam would mean creating a separate merit list for diploma students, which would be difficult for students living in rural areas.

Last year about 25,000 engineering diploma seats went vacant due to subdued interest from students. This number is only going to increase with the introduction of an entrance test. There is a lot of participation for diploma seats from rural students. The entrance test may further reduce participation.
Another problem for the committee is admission to college students of Class 10 to Class 11 on advantage foundation. For colleges and college students, making decisions between science and other streams is not going to be easy.

The committee looks into numerous choices and can submit its findings to the state authorities in a couple of days. The committee contains DEOs, retired DEOs, officers of the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Education Board and representatives of the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE), amongst others.
