The Government has released an Extra Gazette notification dated January 18, 2022, with an added clause of board examinations for students of Classes 5 and 8 in the state.

Haryana Government has announced its decision to make Board Examinations for Classes 5 and 8 in the state mandatory. The order includes all government as well as private schools in the state. It is likely the private CBSE affiliated schools in the state including NCR cities of Gurgaon and Faridabad as well. The cabinet has passed the amendment to the Haryana Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules, 2011 and added new rules to the same, which would become effective immediately.

The Government has released an Extra Gazette notification dated January 18, 2022, with an added clause of board examinations for students of Classes 5 and 8 in the state. According to the Gazette, all schools in Haryana are required to conduct exams for the students of Classes 5 and 8. The step has been taken to check the progress and have a standardized assessment of the expected learning outcomes.

The rule – called the Haryana Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Amendment) Rules, 2022 mandates ‘to conduct regular examination in the fifth class and in the eighth class or to authorize any other agency having expertise in conducting such examinations, at the end of every academic year, in Government and in recognized private schools in the State’.

According to the new rule, students have to appear for the examination and pass it to be promoted to the next class. If they fail, they would be given one more opportunity by the examination authority. The results would be declared by the competent authority within a month of the examination.

The order clearly states that all schools will be included which states that all CBSE affiliated schools will be included.
