While schools across the country are reopening after a long closure, reports suggest that schools in Himachal Pradesh will be closed until September 21, 2021. The state government of Himachal has issued a notice announcing that schools in the state will remain closed considering the possibility of a third wave of COVID-19. However, the decision regarding the schools in Himachal Pradesh however excludes the residential schools in the state. According to the orders issued by the state government, the residential schools can continue to function following the COVID protocols and guidelines issued.

Earlier, schools in Himachal Pradesh were ordered to remain until September 4, 2021, due to the COVID cases. Now, with the certainty of the third wave of COVID-19, the government is of the opinion to continue the online classes until the cases do not reduce or the rate of vaccinations increases.

Amid the declining cases of COVID-19, various states across the country released SoPs to reopen schools and other educational institutions. However, the scare of the third wave is making various state governments wonder about the health and safety of the students and staff members.

In order to avoid COVID-19 spread upon reopening of the schools, the state government conducted a two-day drive to educate the teaching, non-teaching staff members along with the mid-day meal workers to implement the Standard Operating Procedures issued by the government.

Various state governments also insisted on the completion of vaccination for the staff members along with following all the COVID appropriate behavior including wearing masks and practicing social distancing.
