Delhi University EC Clears New Language Courses at Ramjas, Hansraj, RLA; Medical Programs at UCMS, LHMC
The council also approved the University of Delhi's Strategic Plan for 2024-2047, authorizing the Vice Chancellor to decide on the Institutional Development Plan (IDP).
The University of Delhi's Executive Council (EC) has approved the recommendations from the Faculty of Social Sciences to introduce East Asian language courses at three colleges. Under the Department of East Asian Studies, Ramjas College will offer advanced diploma courses in Korean, Hansraj College will introduce certificate and diploma courses in Chinese, Korean, and Japanese, and Ram Lal Anand College will start advanced diploma courses in Chinese and Japanese.
Further, the EC endorsed the recommendations from the Faculty of Medical Sciences to initiate a Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) course at the University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS), as well as a new super-specialty course, DM in Pediatric and Neonatal Anesthesia, at Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC). Additionally, the committee accepted the retention of the Institute of Home Economics (IHE) as a maintained college under the university's ordinance.

On the administrative front, the EC decided to implement the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) scheme for contractual employees starting from October 2024. Vice Chancellor Singh noted that after considering legal aspects, it was unanimously agreed to proceed with the scheme. The council also approved an increase in the monthly fee for part-time contract medical officers (GDMO) at WUSHC from ₹45,000 to ₹55,000, effective from October 2024, with a 5% annual increment from April 1 each year. Notional pay hikes for retiring university employees were also approved.
Moreover, the EC approved extending the lease of land to Maurice Nagar Police Station for another 10 years under the existing agreement terms. A committee was also formed to discuss the proposal of including the Secretary (Higher Education), Ministry of Education, Government of India, as a member of the Executive Council, with the committee expected to report back to the Vice Chancellor.
Lastly, the EC considered and approved guidelines from the Government of India to allow benefits under the old pension scheme for employees covered under the National Pension Scheme who die during service.
