Heads of two leading central universities located in Delhi met for implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Vice-Chancellors of the University of Delhi and Jawaharlal Nehru University held discussions on various strategies to implement the NEP in their respective universities.
The Delhi University and JNU both the universities have announced to implement provisions of the NEP 2020. In this regard, a Delhi University delegation headed by VC Prof. Yogesh Singh visited JNU and met VC, Prof. Santishree Pandit and Rector of JNU. Besides other things, the heads of the two leading universities discussed strategies to accelerate the implementation process of the NEP.
In August 2021, Delhi University decided to implement the NEP from the next academic year, that is 2022-23. One of the major recommendations of the NEP is a four-year undergraduate programme with multiple entry and exit options for students.
The university also formed a 42-member high powered committee to look into the NEP’s implementation. The committee in its recommendation suggested that the University should continue with the three-year undergraduate programme but “assimilate in its structure" a four-year degree programme as well and implement both one-year and two-year postgraduate programmes.
Earlier this month, DU passed the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF) formulated according to the NEP for its 2022-23 academic session.
On the other hand, JNU in 2020 November formed a committee to discuss measures for implementing the National Education Policy including the introduction of four-year undergraduate programmes and conversion of the existing three-year courses into four-year ones.
