ISRO has collaborated with Andhra University to develop a system for detecting rip currents at coastline. project will improve beach safety and reduce drowning cases.

ISRO and Andhra University Partnership

Andhra University and Indian Space Research Organisation have collaborated to reduce beach incidents. This collaboration will detect dangerous rip currents at Andhra Pradesh coastline. It increase beach safety and reduce drowning incidents in state. Experts believe that rip currents are one of leading causes of drowning at many popular beaches such as RK Beach and Rushikonda Beach in Visakhapatnam.

project will use technology to know rip currents in real time and provide early warnings to people, lifeguards and authorities. This technology can improve public safety by helping authorities to be prepared for disasters. Andhra University and ISRO scientists have been studying coastal processes and rip current patterns at Visakhapatnam coast. latest initiative reflects growing use of AI in disaster management and public safety applications.

Rip currents are small channels of fast-moving water that flow from shoreline towards deeper parts of sea. These currents can pull swimmers away from shore within seconds.

This project will use technology to find coastal states and identify rip winds. Studies will focus on beaches where rip currents is a major threat. One recent study showed more than 100 high-risk days for rip current event. These currents are more likely to form. Researchers think these discoveries can help authorities install warning systems and improve safety measures.
