JNUSU has alleged that ABVP members forcibly interrupting proceedings, harassing attendees, and seizing control of the stage

In the wake of escalating tensions at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) has issued a resolute condemnation of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for their alleged disruptive actions during the University General Body Meeting (UGBM) and the subsequent outbreak of violence on February 9th, 2024.

JNUSU has alleged that ABVP members forcibly interrupting proceedings, harassing attendees, and seizing control of the stage, has sent shockwaves across the campus community.

It further stated in a statement that according to eyewitness accounts and corroborated video evidence, ABVP members, led by prominent figures Vikas Patel and Rajeshwar Kant Dubey, instigated chaos by cutting the microphone cord, physically assaulting speakers, and propagating divisive slogans.

β€œThe JNUSU has strongly rebuked ABVP's attempts to undermine democratic processes and incite communal discord, emphasizing their commitment to upholding the university's core values of inclusivity and freedom of expression,” reads a statement issued by JNUSU.

In response to the turmoil, the JNUSU has called for solidarity among students and reiterated their determination to reconvene the UGBM to ensure that democratic norms are upheld. Despite ABVP's efforts to sow seeds of discord, the JNUSU remains steadfast in their resolve to defend the rights and interests of the student body. As tensions continue to simmer, the JNUSU appeals to all stakeholders to prioritize dialogue and cooperation in fostering a peaceful and harmonious campus environment.
