Students currently in class 11 or 12 can apply for the inaugural session of RSI-India, a 6-week intensive summer STEM programme for Indian school students with a strong academic background in order to gain advanced scientific research, problem-solving and critical thinking skills. 

RSI India 6-week intensive summer STEM programme

IISc Bangalore will host the inaugural session of the Research Science Initiative India (RSI- India) from June 15 to July 26, 2025. Students who are currently in Class 11 or who have completed Class 11 and started Class 12 are invited to apply for the RSI-India, a 6-week intensive summer STEM programme for Indian school students with a strong academic background.

What is RSI Programme?  

RSI is an initiative sponsored by the Adani Group that offers a unique opportunity for high-achieving students to engage in advanced scientific research, develop their problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, and work closely with expert faculty and mentors in cutting-edge fields. A total of thirty-five students will be selected based on their application, which includes written personal statements, exam scores, STEM achievements, letters of recommendation, and school transcripts.

Selected Students to Stay at IISc Bangalore 

Students who will be selected, will be matched with a research mentor at the IISc and will reside on the IISc campus in Bengaluru, where they will attend courses for the first week, complete individual hands-on research projects with their IISc mentors, and then present a paper and a talk on their research at the RSI-India Student Symposium during the final week.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Indian students in class 11 currently enrolled in high school in India (or have completed Class XI and/or started Class XII) are eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must have completed Class XI by the time the program begins.

Q:   Can I join IISc without JEE Main?
A:

The answer to this question depends on the course you are applying at IISC.

For Bachelor of Technology (BTech) programme, aspirants are offered admission based on JEE Main score. Hoewever, for BSc programme admission,  JEE is not compulsory. Candidates with a valid score in IISER Aptitude Test can also get admission. For other courses such as MTech, MSc and PhD, JEE Main is not required for admission at Indian Institute of Science (IISC).

Q:   Can I do M.Tech at IISc without GATE?
A:

No, candidate who are looking for admission at IISC Bangalore need to have a valid GATE score. However, 70% GATE score + 30% performance in written test (100% GATE based for Aerospace, Chemical, Civil, Materials Engg.) + COAP counselling will be accepted. Apart from this, students might face some problems while downloading the GATE hall ticket 2024. The problem might be due to slow internet connectivity or a heavy load on the server. In such situations, candidates should try downloading the admit card after a short duration. In case any candidate forgets their application ID/Enrollment ID or password, they can reset it. In case a candidate has forgotten their password, they can reset it from the GOAPS portal. 

Q:   What is the eligibility for B.Tech at IISc Bangalore?
A:

Candidates need to pass Class 12 or equivalent from a recognised board with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, a language and any subject other than the above four to apply for IISC Bangalore BTech programme. The selection to BTech course is based on JEE Advanced score.
