Schools closed in Tamil Nadu due to yellow rain alert; RMC warns 14 districts of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.

Many Schools in Tamil Nadu are to remain closed for today and may be for the coming few days due to the yellow rain alert. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Tamil Nadu has issued a warning to 14 districts of heavy rain across several southern and delta regions of the state. 

As per the RMC daily reports, heavy rain is expected in many parts of Tamil Nadu. The government has sent special disaster teams to help in Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli. Earlier on Monday, November 24, 2025 several schools across the states were closed for the same reason.

Here are a few districts with a probable school holiday, including Kallakurichi, Puducherry, Virudhunagar, Thanjavur, Tiruchi, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur, Ariyalur, Karur and others.

RMC has also issued intimation for heavy rain alerts in  Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Madurai, Virudhunagar.

Light ot moderate Rain Alerts are also observed across many districts for the upcoming days, which include Coimbatore, Kallakurichi, Kanyakumari, Madurai, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Salem, Sivaganga, Tenkasi, Thoothukkudi.

Parents and School management are advised to keep checking the updates from RMC and the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), and stay inside until necessary to go outside.
