The objective of the PhD Excellence Citation is to create a high-quality research environment and recognize outstanding PhD work among young researchers. The nomination of research scholars who have been awarded PhD degrees in convocation between January 1 to 31,  December 2024 is open till March 31, 2025. 

UGC PhD Excellence Citation

University Grants Commission has instituted a PhD Excellence Citation to honour young researchers for their contribution in academics leading to PhD degrees. The authorities are inviting nominations of research scholars who have been awarded PhD degrees in convocation between January 1 to December 31, 2024. The nominations for UGC PhD Excellence Citation are open till March 31, 2025. 

The UGC PhD Excellence Citation aims to encourage high-quality research in Indian universities and annually recognize and honour winners from various fields. The scheme, as outlined in the National Education Policy 2020, seeks to explore new boundaries of knowledge with the goal of transforming India into a knowledge superpower.

Guidelines for PhD Excellence Citation

The authorities have provided several guidelines under PhD excellence citation as tabulated below:

  • To identify and recognize exceptional Ph.D. work among young researchers.
Coverage Theses from science, engineering, social science, language, commerce and management or research scholars who have successfully completed their theses from Indian universities. 
Number of Citations UGC will award ten Ph.D. Excellence Citations (two citations from each
discipline)
Eligibility Criteria for Students The URL of the recommended thesis is uploaded on the INFLIBNET website, along with important research publications and patents resulting from the PhD work. The theses are awarded in accordance with UGC guidelines, ensuring they meet the necessary academic standards and contribute significantly to their respective fields.

Each university may nominate up to five theses annually, one from each of the five disciplines, based on the PhD degrees awarded during the previous year’s convocation, from January 1st to December 31.
