UGC Extends Deadline for Environmental Studies MOOCs Proposals to May 31

Faculty invited to submit EOIs under five thematic areas for SWAYAM platform course development
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has extended the deadline for submission of proposals to develop Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in Environmental Studies on the SWAYAM platform to May 31, 2025. The extension, announced through a public notice dated May 20, comes in response to several requests from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) seeking additional time to prepare and submit their Expressions of Interest (EOIs).
The initial call for proposals, issued on April 17, 2025, invited eligible faculty members from HEIs across the country to contribute to the development of digital learning content under five identified thematic areas. These include climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies, environmental monitoring and instrumentation, environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG), environmental communication and journalism, and the intersection of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) with the environment. Notably, institutions submitting proposals in the area of environmental instrumentation may choose to engage an industry partner if they so desire.
According to the 2024 SWAYAM Guidelines released by the Ministry of Education, faculty members whose proposals are selected will receive financial assistance of βΉ13.5 lakh for the development of a four-credit course. The UGC emphasized that this initiative is an important opportunity for faculty to adopt innovative pedagogical approaches, contribute to nation-building through academic excellence, and disseminate environmental awareness via high-quality digital content.
Faculty members interested in participating in this academic initiative are encouraged to submit their EOIs through the official SWAYAM platform at https://swayam.inflibnet.ac.in before the extended deadline of May 31.
