UGC seeks proposals from higher education faculty and institutions to create online courses aligned with NEP 2020 vision

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a public notice inviting faculty members and subject matter experts from universities and higher education institutions to submit their Expression of Interest (EOI) for developing Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) for the SWAYAM platform. The last date for submission is May 15, 2025.

This initiative aligns with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to expand access to quality higher education through technology. The UGC has identified 145 undergraduate and 139 postgraduate non-engineering subjects for which MOOCs need to be developed.

The commission has called for proposals to create courses for both undergraduate and postgraduate (non-engineering) levels. The selected faculty or institutions will be designated as Course Coordinators (CCs) and will be responsible for the end-to-end development of MOOCs, including video lectures, reading materials, assessments, and discussion forums.

The courses will be delivered through SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active–Learning for Young Aspiring Minds)—India’s national online education platform developed by the Ministry of Education.

Key details:

Who can apply: Faculty members of higher education institutions, especially from institutions ranked high in NIRF or accredited by NAAC

Level of courses: UG and PG (non-engineering)

Deadline: May 15, 2025

How to apply: Through the online Google Form link provided in the official UGC notice

The UGC emphasized the need to enrich SWAYAM’s course offerings and encouraged experienced academicians to contribute toward high-quality digital learning content. The initiative is also part of a broader push to facilitate blended and online learning across India’s higher education landscape.
