SPA Delhi has enhanced its Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) and Master’s programs by integrating advanced digital tools, while IIT KGPs B.Arch and M.Arch programs now incorporate parametric design and IoT for smart building technologies

In a significant push to advance architecture education in India, the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) Delhi and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur have introduced cutting-edge updates to their curricula, emphasizing AI, sustainable design, and interdisciplinary approaches, as reported in recent academic developments.

SPA Delhi, ranked 5th in the NIRF 2024 Architecture and Planning category, has enhanced its Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) and Master’s programs by integrating advanced digital tools like Building Information Modelling (BIM) and AI-driven design methodologies. The institute’s Centre for Advanced Studies in Architecture now focuses on climate-responsive architecture and energy studies, equipping students to address contemporary environmental challenges. Additionally, SPA Delhi’s recent bilateral collaborations with international universities aim to provide students with global exposure through exchange programs, further enriching their academic experience.

Meanwhile, IIT Kharagpur, ranked 2nd in NIRF 2024 for Architecture and Planning, has reinforced its Department of Architecture and Regional Planning, established in 1952, with a renewed focus on smart cities and sustainable urban infrastructure. The institute’s B.Arch and M.Arch programs now incorporate parametric design and IoT for smart building technologies, supported by state-of-the-art design labs and research centers. IIT Kharagpur’s interdisciplinary approach, blending architecture with engineering and humanities, continues to attract top recruiters like DLF and Gensler, ensuring robust placement opportunities for graduates.

Both institutions are aligning their programs with India’s New Education Policy, fostering innovation and practical skills to meet the growing demand for skilled architects in sustainable and urban development sectors. These developments underscore SPA Delhi and IIT Kharagpur’s commitment to shaping the future of architecture education in India, preparing students to tackle global and local challenges in the built environment.
