The higher education regulator has issued notice against National Backward Krushi Vidypeeth, National Institute of Management Solutions and Sarva Bharatiya Shiksha Peeth stating they are not recognized by UGC Act.

University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued three public notices alerting students and the public about institutions that are not recognised or authorised to confer degrees under the UGC Act, 1956. These fake universities are located in New Delhi, Solapur- Maharashtra and Tumkur- Karnataka.

National Backward Krushi Vidypeeth: Not Recognised by UGC: UGC in its notice has clarified that National Backward Krushi Vidypeeth, Solapur is not recognised by the UGC under Section 2(f) or Section 3 of the UGC Act and therefore cannot award any Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programmes. Prospective students are advised to verify the recognition status of any university before enrolment to avoid pursuing invalid qualifications. (UGC public notice)

This notice comes amid confusion over status of the institution, though some online profiles claim it as a recognised agricultural university, the official UGC warning indicates it is not approved to confer degrees under the UGC Act.

National Institute of Management Solutions: Declared Non-University. In another public notice, the UGC stated that National Institute of Management Solutions, located at Janakpuri, New Delhi, is not a university and is not recognised by the Commission to offer any Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programmes, whether through regular or distance modes. It also cannot admit students for degree programmes on behalf of any other university.

Sarva Bharatiya Shiksha Peeth: The UGC warning reiterates that Sarva Bharatiya Shiksha Peeth (SBSP), promoted as an educational institution, is not recognised as a university or degree-granting body under the UGC Act. It is reported to have ceased academic operations since June 2022. It is not authorised to confer degrees. Students should exercise caution and confirm institutional status through the official UGC database before joining programmes.

These notices follow earlier UGC actions to identify and warn against fake or unrecognised institutions, including formal notices to dozens of private universities for non-compliance with transparency norms such as mandatory public self-disclosure under Section 13 of the UGC Act.

Prospective students and parents are urged to check the official UGC list of recognised universities before admission, to ensure degrees awarded are legitimate and accepted nationwide.
