Ukraine crisis: Parents appeal Indian Govt to evacuate students
The Government of India has been closely following the situation while refraining from taking any side on the developing situation.
With tension between Russia and Ukraine increasing every day, Indian students pursuing medical education in Ukraine are worried about their future. The Indian embassy in Kyiv has asked all Indian nationals currently in Ukraine to register themselves with the Indian mission.
Ukraine is facing the threat of a Russian invasion, and hundreds of Indian students who are currently there are tense as they fear the current situation would affect their studies. The majority of them have got themselves registered with the Indian mission in Kyiv.
There are around 18,000 Indian students in Ukraine, with the majority of them pursuing medicine. As per the Ministry of External Affairs, there are over hundreds of Indian business professionals who are working predominantly in pharmaceuticals, IT, engineering, medicine and education.
As per a statement issued by the Embassy, the call for registration was made with the intent to coordinate with Indian citizens effectively and disseminate information in a swift manner. The mission has asked Indian nationals to share their details by January 31.
The statement from Embassy reads: “Embassy of India in Kyiv is closely monitoring the situation. It is advised to continue to follow the Embassy website, Facebook and Twitter pages for further updates, which would be published as and when required.”
Parents appeal MEA, EAM S Jaishankar

The parent of one of the Indian students in Ukraine, Kandavel Veeraih shared his concern on Twitter and appealed to the Minister of External Affairs: “DrSJaishankar seeking your attention 10000 of our Indian students r studying in Kharkiv National Medical University, Kharkiv eastern side of Ukraine. My daughter is also one among those. Kindly rescue all our IndianFlag of India students in case any Russian troops invaded.”
Another parent Dr Tamizhiniyan wrote: “Critical Situation Between #Russia and Ukraine Already US said to US citizens to Leave Ukraine Country but you are not having consideration in Indian People's who are Living in Ukraine Please Rescue us soon Because many Indian students here.”
