Initiate action for introduction of yoga in MBBS course: NMC to medical colleges

NMC releases notice on YOGA training in MBBS course curriculum

National Medical Commission (NMC) has released a circular on Yoga training in the MBBS course. The official notice reads, "New Competency Based Medical Education for Undergraduate Course Curriculum has been implemented by National Medical Commission from the academic session 2021-22 vide circular dated March 31, 2022 (copy attached), wherein YOGA Training has been introduced during foundation course for a maximum of 1 hour every day for a period of 10 days beginning from June 12, 2022, every year to be culminated on International YOGA Day i.e. June 21, 2021, in all medical colleges across the country."

"All State Governments/UTs, Universities and medical colleges/institutes are requested to initiate immediate action with regard to introduction of YOGA training programme for undergraduate course curriculum from current batch of MBBS students i.e. 2021-22, admitted in the month of Feb-March 2022," added the notification.

Ministry of AYUSH develops YOGA protocol

The NMC's notification said that to maintain the symmetry in the YOGA training programme at all medical colleges in India, Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga under the Ministry of AYUSH has developed a common YOGA protocol which is also available on the yoga portal of the Ministry of AYUSH at https://yoga.ayush.gov.in/. 

The government's website says, "Common Yoga Protocol has been designed with the consensus of all the experts. CYP comprises day-to-day Yoga practice for the masses to reap all the benefits of Yoga. The protocol intends to create general awareness among the masses to attain peace, harmony and well-being through Yoga practices e.g. Yoga Nidra, Pranayama, Dhyan, etc. Enjoy the videos of the best Yoga sessions, keep learning and continue to reap the benefits of Yoga practices."
