Ashoka University Signs MoU with Meteorological Department for Climate Research
Ashoka University's collaboration with the Meteorological department was finalised during the second annual workshop on AI/ ML in weather and climate modelling conducted by the Safexpress Centre for Data, learning and Decision Science.
Ashoka University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ministry of Earth Sciences. The MoU between Ashoka University and the India Meteorological Department has been finalised during the second annual workshop on AI/ML Methods in Weather and Climate Modelling. The annual workshop was conducted by Safexpress Centre for Data, Learning and Decision Sciences (SCDLDS). The centre has been working to achieve correct approximation of the weather, including heavy rainfall, droughts, heat and cold waves.
The collaboration between Ashoka University and the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ministry of Earth Sciences, aims to get solutions to problems related to weather, climate variability, forecasting and risk management. The collaboration will also support the joint research initiatives in the climate science, hydrology and environmental sustainability areas. Further, the department will also research several topics, including meteorology, atmospheric physics and environmental sustainability.
The IMD and Ashoka University's experts will design the coursework, practicals, lectures, training, examination and guidelines of the programme. The MoU will offer students an opportunity for an internship at IMD to learn about weather monitoring and forecasting.
Further, the collaboration will also include the data sharing and management area of the programme. The university will organise workshops and training sessions for the researchers in the field of data analysis, climate modelling and computational methods.

The 2024 batch comprised 1,110 students. Out of these 355 students opted for placements and 311 opted for higher education, family business, entrepreneurship, competitive exams and pursuing a gap year.
