The high court observed that the candidate is not NET- JRF qualified, he/she is entitled to appear in the JNUEE, and seek admission to PhD courses.
Delhi High Court has dismissed a plea of a students seeking admission in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) to the PhD course, stating that the varsity did not invite any applications for PhD in Hindi course through the JNU entrance examination (JNUEE).
The candidate had applied for admission to the PhD course in JNU in the National Eligibility Test (NET) -Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) category, as per reports.
Advocate Kumar Piyush Pushkar, counsel for the petitioner, submitted that in the academic session 2021-22, JNU did not offer any seats for PhD in Hindi other than through the NET-JRF category. Although she had not taken the University Grants Commission (UGC) NET-JRF exam, the petitioner's contention was that she was entitled to be considered in the said category as the NET-JRF has not been conducted in the last three cycles, the report said.
The high court observed that the candidate is not NET- JRF qualified, he/she is entitled to appear in the JNUEE, and seek admission to PhD courses. On the other hand, a NET-JRF qualified candidate is not required to appear in the JNUEE but must submit himself/herself to an interview.
The candidate, who filed the petition, was interviewed but was held to be ineligible as she has admittedly not taken the NET-JRF examination. Jawaharlal Nehru University entrance examination or JNUEE is a national level entrance test conducted by NTA for admission to various UG, PG and doctoral level programmes offered by the university. On December 16, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the JNUEE final answer key 2021for UG and PG programmes at nta.ac.in.
