Karnataka schools to be closed in districts as per COVID-19 situation
After testing positive for the novel coronavirus, CM Bommai, conducted a virtual meeting to assess the situation and the preparation. The meeting also decided to extend the precautionary guidelines on COVID until the end of the month.
Amid the increasing cases of the novel coronavirus, Karnataka schools are likely to be shut in districts witnessing the COVID-19 surge. The decision to close schools has been left on the DCs of the respective districts by the state government. In a meeting conducted by the Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, district collectors have been asked to take a call on the operations of schools, depending on the state’s situation.

Meanwhile, the government ordered the closure of Bengaluru schools as the city witnessed a sharp rise in the number of cases. The city continues to be the largest contributor to the rising active cases in the state. The overall situation is being monitored by the Health Department closely. However, schools in other parts of Karnataka have not been closed as yet.
With the larger implication of closing schools in mind, the decision has been left with the local authorities on the basis of the ground situation in their districts with respect to COVID-19 cases. DCs, if they feel, have the authority to close the schools and also reopen the schools.
Meanwhile, the country is witnessing a sharp surge in COVID-19 cases. Karnataka has reported 14,435 new cases in the last 24 hours, with over 10,000 cases from Bangalore. India reported 1,94,720 fresh COVID cases, 60,405 recoveries & 442 deaths in the last 24 hours.
