Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur, Governor of Karnataka, TC Gehlot, and several other dignitaries launched the logo, jersey, mascot, and anthem of the second phase of Khelo India University Games 2021 (KIUG 2021) at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.

The first edition KIUG 2020 was hosted by Odisha and last year the event got postponed due to the Covid-19 crisis.

TC Gehlot said, "Today, Union Sports Minister Shri Anurag Singh Thakur ji, Hon'ble Minister of Karnataka Government Shri Ashwath Narayan ji, Sports Minister Shri KC Narayana Gowda ji participated in the program organized at Kanteerava Stadium and unveiled logo, jersey and anthem."

Anurag Thakur said, "The Khelo India University Games is a platform through which we intend to identify talent for the Asian Games, CWG and the Olympics. This year around 4500 athletes, representing 20 sports from across India will participate in the Games and I am confident that we will be able to find at least a few players who will represent India in the upcoming Olympics," as reported by Devdiscourse.

KIUG 2021 event details

The official Khelo India mobile app was launched at the event for live updates of the Games. Gehlot launched the logo and official mascot of the games – Veera. Thakur launched the official jersey of the games as well as the anthem, sung by Chandan Shetty and Nikhil Joshi. 

Anurag Singh Thakur's tweet reads, "While the games will be organized on the one hand, by organizing zero waste games, you are also going to play the role of a game changer this time in 'Khelo India University Games' #KIUG2021 . For this I congratulate and congratulate the Government of Karnataka very much - @ianuragthakur."
