Law student found dead in National Law University Odisha girls hostel
A second-year law student belonging to the Scheduled Tribe community was found dead in the Girls' Hostel of National Law University Odisha (NLUO), prima-facie looks suicide.
A law student hailing from Haryana was reportedly found hanging from the ceiling fan in the Girls' Hostel of National Law University Odisha (NLUO). The deceased was rushed to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack where doctors declared her dead, as reported by Live Law.
Following this unfortunate incident university administration suspended classes for today. The official mail reads, "Due to the sudden and unfortunate demise of one of our beloved students, the classes shall be suspended today i.e. 05 April 2022."
Prima-facie looks suicide, said police
While the student community is shocked and alleges that NLUO has not revealed to them anything about the status of the police investigation, as per reports, police said it is prima-facie a case of suicide.
"Prima-facie it looks like a case of suicide," said police, as reported by TOI.
One of her batchmates has revealed that she was not attending her classes for the past some days. Reports are coming in that she had suicidal tendencies and was in depression.
"The deceased hailed from Haryana and was a second-year student of Law College. At around 7 pm in the evening, the father of the deceased informed the hostel warden about Surbhi not answering his calls. The warden along with others searched everywhere to trace her. They broke into her room at around 8.30 pm and found her hanging from the ceiling fan," Dr Yogesh Pratap Singh, the Registrar of NLUO said, as reported by Odisha TV.
