NLU Students' Association has made a representation to the Bar Council of India seeking parity in AIBE 2025 eligibility. Further, the association demands revision of the eligibility criteria of AIBE 2025 in order to ensure equality for all final year law students, citing the issue causing due to different academic calendars in universities.

Bar Council of India

The National Law Universities Students’ Association (NLUSA) has requested the Bar Council of India (BCI) to reconsider the AIBE 2025 eligibility criteria. The association has submitted a formal representation, bearing Ref. No. NLUSA/001/2025-26, on October 26. The representation highlights that at present, only students in their final semester, or those who already have their provisional or final transcripts, are allowed to apply for the AIBE exam. They argued that this rule is unfair to some students, because universities across India follow different academic calendars.

The AIBE 20 (XX) registration 2025 is closing on October 31, and the exam will be conducted on November 30, 2025. But in many universities, 9th-semester exams will be conducted in November/ December 2025, so these students will be unable to register for the exam even though they are re in their final year of law programme.

Further, universities with a trimester system, students in their 14th trimester of a five-year course, or 8th trimester (three-year course) are also ineligible to appear for the exam as per the current eligibility criteria. Meanwhile, students from universities that finished their 9th semester before October 2025 are already in their 10th semester and can register for the examination.

Hence, the association has requested the Bar Council of India (BCI) to allow all final-year students to register for the examination and extend the AIBE 2025 registration deadline in order to allow students to participate in the examination.
