Madhya Pradesh HC allows a tribal girl to re-register for NEET UG 2021 Counselling
A tribal NEET UG Counselling candidate who had mistakenly registered under the wrong category has been allowed by Madhya Pradesh High Court to re-register for the last round of counselling.
A tribal girl of ST (Scheduled Tribes) category who cleared NEET examination with good rank and submitted the registration form under a wrong category got a big relief from Madhya Pradesh High Court as the court has allowed her to participate in the last round of counselling by re-registration.
The judgement came while hearing the writ petition filed by the 19-year-old Purva Balke of Barwani district, the division bench of Justices Rajendra Kumar Varma and Vivek Rusia directed that she should be given the opportunity to register for the last phase of NEET UG 2021 Counselling.
The petitioner had registered under the NRI category and did not correct the same before the last date.
The bench has said, "It is very unfortunate that the petitioner, an ST category student from a remote tribal area who pursued her studies up to Class 12 and cleared NEET examination with a good rank, has inadvertently submitted the registration form under a wrong category and did not correct the same before the last date," as reported by NDTV.
“As a special case, looking at the overall facts and circumstances of the case, we are hereby directing respondents to permit the petitioner to participate in the last round of counselling by re-registration and the same shall not be treated as a precedent," added the bench.
The tribal student had appeared for NEET 2021 and ranked 4,540 under the ST category, while her All-India rank (AIR) was 2,24,236. While filling out her form she entered the NRI category instead of the ST category and hence she was not allowed to take part in the NEET UG 2021 Counselling.
