Maharashtra School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad has recently announced a two-week Diwali vacation for all state-run schools. Considering that the COVID-19 cases may rise during the festive season, the education department of Maharashtra decided on a Diwali vacation from October 28 to November 10, 2021. The directive released by the government is applicable to all classes, i.e. from Kindergarten to Class 12.
The minister also informed that during the Diwali vacation, no offline or online classes will be held. Schools in parts of Maharashtra have recently resumed offline classes. Physical classes had started in rural areas for Classes 5 to 12. However, in urban areas, offline classes were resumed only for the students of Classes 8 to 12.
The department resumed offline classes strictly following the precautionary laid down by the health ministry against the COVID-19 spread. Schools in Maharashtra were closed for a very long time due to the prevalent COVID-19 situation. Upon reopening, schools are following staggered school hours and entry system, along with social distancing inside the classroom.
The state has decided to resume offline classes for all students after Diwali vacation. Speculations state that the education department of Maharashtra is prepping up to reopen the school for all the classes after the vacation. However, there has been no official statement made by the state regarding the same. The government has given the local civic bodies the permission to implement the decision to resume offline classes basis the situation in the area. They have also been directed to close the schools analyzing an increase on COVID-19 cases in the area.
