CAT 2014 has released the details of scoring and equating process. To ensure fairness in comparison of performances of candidates, raw scores will be normalised across the four slots.

The normalisation will take into account factors like location and scaled differences of score distributions across different forms. The scaled scores obtained will then be converted into percentiles.

“CAT 2014 shall involve administering a different form of the test across each of the 4 different test sessions. In order to ensure fairness and equity in comparison of performances of the candidates across different test sessions, the scores of the candidates shall be subjected to a process of Normalization. The Normalization process to be implemented shall adjust for location and scale differences of score distributions across different forms and the scaled scores obtained by this process shall be converted into percentiles for purposes of shortlisting,” informed the official website.

Each right answer is awarded with three marks whereas one mark is deducted for every wrong answer.

Please note: Location here refers to statistical position of a student via parameters such as mean, median and etc. View details about CAT 2014 normalisation process.
