The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta has appointed Uttam Kumar Sarkar as the new Director with immediate effect. Sarkar will replace Anju Seth who was the first female director of the institute.
Uttam Sarkar is a professor at the Management Information Systems Group of the Institute and has obtained his B.Tech, M.Tech., and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur.
He has an outstanding academic record and is a leading researcher in the field of information systems with numerous publications in prestigious international journals to his credit. He has vast experience in key leadership roles in India and extensive exposure to universities and academic communities worldwide.
Professor Sarkar was selected from a large number of highly accomplished and qualified aspirants from India and abroad, through a very rigorous search process that lasted several months.
