20.8 Lakh Candidates Appear for NEET UG 2025; Exam Held Smoothly Nationwide
NTA successfully conducted the NEET UG 2025 today, with over 20.8 lakh candidates appearing for the exam. A coordinated 'whole-of-government' approach ensured the nationwide test was held smoothly, with no major issues or reports of malpractice.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduates (NEET-UG) today, i.e. May 4, 2025, across 548 citites in India and 14 centres abroad. The examination was conducted in pen-paper-based mode, where 20.8 Lakh candidates participated in the entrance examination in order to get admission to UG medical, dental and AYUSH courses across India. The Ministry of Education cited that there were no major challenges or allegations of malpractice recorded throughout the country test, as reported by NDTV.ย
In order to ensure the seamless management of NEET 2025, mock drills were conducted on Saturday at all National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) exam centers. The majority of the centres were situated at government-run or government-supported educational institutions, including colleges, universities, and schools, and no untoward incidents have been reported so far.

The total number of exam cities for NEET is 566. The number of NEET exam cities in India are 552 and in abroad are 14. The number of exam cities in India changes every year. The exact number is known through the notification PDF.
The NTA has not released the NEET 2026 exam city list yet. The number of exam cities will be known after the release of NEET notification 2026. However, the NTA removed five cities from the list in 2025. The five cities which were removed from the NEET exam city list were Surampelam (Andhra Pradesh), Deoghar (Madhya Pradesh), Basar (Arunachal Pradesh), Mamit (Mizoram) and Kiphrie (Nagaland).
No, once the NEET city slip is issued by NTA, it is not permitted to request for change in the exam city. NTA tries to allot the NEET exam city based on candidates' first preference. However, there may be situations where it is not possible to allot the preferred city. Hence, candidates have to make the necessary travel or accommodation arrangements accordingly, instead of approaching NTA to change the exam city.

NTA launched a Suspicious Claims Reporting Portal to tackle deception and cheating in NEET UG 2025. ย More than 2,300 reports were received by the portal, the majority of which concerned false information regarding the NEET UG 2025 question papers leak and circulated on social media. ย
A complaint has been made to the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) after officials identified 106 Telegram and 16 Instagram channels spreading misleading content and false promises for admission.
