As per reports, the state has spent INR 8,430 crore on strengthening medical education. The state is planning to start classes at R’mandry, Nandyala, Machilipatnam, Eluru and Vizianagaram medical colleges from the next 2023-24 academic year and has sanctioned 17 more medical colleges.

Andhra Pradesh spends over INR 8k crore to strengthen medical education

Andhra Pradesh has increased its pace in strengthening the medical education of the state. The latest is, the state has reportedly spent INR 8,430 crore to boost medical education. 

As per the Indian Express report, after completion of new medical colleges in the state, the government is planning to start the classes at R’mandry, Nandyala, Machilipatnam, Eluru and Vizianagaram medical colleges from the next 2023-24 academic year and has sanctioned 17 more medical colleges for the state.

Recently, Principal Secretary (Health and Family Welfare) MT Krishna Babu said that admission to five new medical colleges including Machilipatnam, Vizianagaram, Rajahmundry, Eluru and Nandyala, will start in the 2023-24 academic year. 

“The intake of each medical college is 150 seats. The government has proposed to upgrade all 11 existing medical colleges. Administrative sanction has been given for strengthening the existing medical colleges at a cost of Rs 3,820 crore,” he said. 

At Paderu, Madanapalli, Markapuram, Pulivendula and Adoni colleges, the classes will commence from the next academic session of 2024-25.

NMC approves 15 PG seats in Andhra Medical College

The National Medical Council (NMC) has approved 15 PG seats in the first phase for Andhra Medical College. After an inspection of the Andhra Medical College on the proposal submitted to increase 131 PG seats, the commission has approved issuing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) for 15 seats in four departments.
