Bihar Medical University to start functioning from next session

Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey has said that a full-fledged medical university will start functioning from the next academic session.

Bihar is all set for a full-fledged functioning medical university from the next academic session, as confirmed by the Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey. 

Reportedly, the state cabinet has already sanctioned the posts of vice-chancellor (VC), Pro-VC registrar, examination controller and other officials along with the secretarial staff for the university.

"The process of their appointment will be initiated by the government soon," he said, as reported by TOI.

The VC and pro-VC of this medical university will be appointed by the state government and not by the governor-cum-chancellor. The state government is expected to establish a search committee to recommend suitable people for appointment to the top executive posts of the university.

"The university will initially start functioning from the premises of Chanakya National Law University Mithapur. In due course, it will get its own separate campus," said Pandey.

He stated that this university would provide better management of all the medical colleges currently affiliated to Aryabhatta Knowledge University (AKU) as AKU is already overburdened with the task of administering a large number of colleges. He said that around 71 medical colleges including private and government medical colleges, nursing and paramedical colleges, and pharmacy colleges presently affiliated with AKU would be transferred to the new medical university.

"CM Nitish Kumar had taken the initiative for setting up an independent medical university for ensuring all-round improvement of all the institutions related with health services in the state. Therefore, a decision was taken last year to set up a state-level medical university along with an engineering university and a sports university in the state," he added.

The prominent medical colleges that would be included in the domain of new medical university are Darbhanga Medical College, Patna Medical College, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College - Bhagalpur, AN Magadh Medical College - Gaya, Nalanda Medical College - Patna, Sri Krishna Medical College Muzaffarpur, Patna Dental College, Govt Medical College - Bettiah, Govt Ayurvedic College Patna, Govt Tibbi College and Hospital-Patna, Vardhman Institute of Medical Sciences - Pawapuri, Madhubani Medical College-Madhubani, Netaji Subhas Medical College and Hospital Bihta, and Rajkiya Ayodhya Shivkumari Ayurvedic College and Hospital Begusarai.
