After Konni, Idukki medical colleges came under severe criticism, doctors from various government medical colleges in Kerala are re-deployed to these newly set up colleges.

Kerala health department has sent doctors from various medical colleges in the state to the newly built Konni and Idukki medical colleges. Around 23 doctors are sent to Konni medical college, and 16 doctors are transferred to Idukki medical college. The doctors are asked to report to the colleges on an immediate basis.

Recently, the National Medical Council (NMC) had inspected these colleges and these colleges also faced severe criticism.

Doctors are not happy with this transfer. They have protested against it and said that the health department should create posts in the new government medical colleges (GMC) instead of transferring doctors from other medical colleges as it will create a shortage of doctors in other medical colleges as well. As per reports, due to a shortage of doctors, surgeries are being postponed in other medical colleges' hospitals.

Twelve doctors are sent to Konni from Thiruvananthapuram, four from Thrissur, six from Kottayam and one doctor from Manjeri medical college have been sent to Konni. Four doctors are sent to Idukki college from Kozhikode, six doctors from Thiruvananthapuram, three each from Thrissur and Kottayam has been sent to Idukki college.

This came at a time when the resident doctors in most government medical colleges are overburdened due to delay in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Postgraduate) (NEET PG ) Counselling 2021 and they are on a nationwide strike demanding immediate start of the NEET PG Counselling 2021.
