FAIMA releases tentative seat vacancy list of Junior Residents in INIs

In its latest release, the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has highlighted the alarming vacancy status of Junior Residents in AIIMS and other Institutes of National Importance (INIs).

FAIMA's tweet reads, "How unfortunate is it that so many vacancies are in Institutes of National Importance and we are having to rely on the Supreme Court to ensure that our existing JRs don't get overburdened due to sudden cancellation of Open Counselling for INICET PG Entrance July 22 Session!"

As per FAIMA, the cancellation of all rounds for the INICET July 2022 session after round 2 created a problematic situation in most of the departments in almost every participating INI institute. As per their survey by residents and RDAs of these colleges, the vacancies reach 100% in many preclinical and para-clinical departments and more than 50% in several patient-heavy clinical departments.

FAIMA has released the list of vacant seats in various departments of AIIMS Delhi, JIPMER Puducherry, AIIMS Patna, AIIMS Bhopal, AIIMS Rishikesh and NIMHANS Bengaluru.

FAIMA's official statement reads, "If further rounds of counselling do not happen, the treatment quality in several departments of these apex tertiary care institutions will be significantly hampered. Since senior JRS have already passed out, but new junior JRs have not yet been admitted. This mismatch and vacancy status are putting extra pressure and burden on already hard-working residents. The situation is worse in peripheral AIIMS and pre/paraclinical departments, where several departments are over 90% vacant."
