Scores of Indian medical students who returned to India from China due to Covid-19 restrictions in China are waiting to join back their universities so that they can attend clinical training. Now, China has given a ray of hope to many such students by saying that it has commenced the process for the return of the Indian students and the first batch may arrive soon.
Commenting on social media posts by some Chinese diplomats about the opening of a new visa policy for all foreign students soon, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said, âWe are working intensively for the return of foreign students to China and this process for Indian studentâs return has begun," as reported by Indian Express.
âWe believe we will see the return of the first batch of Indian students very soon and we will continue to pursue it with relevant work while ensuring the safety against COVID,â Wang added.
Most of these students pursuing medical courses in China
Nearly 23,000 Indian students, mostly studying medicine, are reportedly stuck back in India due to the Covid visa restrictions in China. Some students from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Russia and several other countries arrived on chartered flights in recent weeks. China is allowing flights from different countries, however, flights between India and China which halted during the initial Covid-19 outbreak in 2020, still remain suspended.
After China asked for names of students wanting to return immediately to pursue their studies, India submitted a list of many such students. When Wang was asked at what stage the process of the list provided by the Indian Embassy in Beijing about the Indian students wanting to return, he said the relevant information will be released soon.
China is currently processing the list of hundreds of Indian students wanting to return to the country to re-join their colleges.
