Yet another case of violence against the doctor is reported in Punjab where a junior resident and nursing staff were reportedly attacked by the attendants of the patient. As per the release of the Union of Resident Doctors of Punjab, the doctor was brutally attacked in the face, resulting in a fracture of his nasal bone.

GMC Patiala: Doctor, nursing staff attacked by patient's attendants

Reportedly, Dr Rao Varinder (JR-3) of Government Medical College (GMC) Punjab has been attacked by the attendants of a patient.

Union of Resident Doctors of Punjab (URDP) has said that when Dr Rao went to the ward in response to a distress call by a female junior resident and nursing staff on duty regarding misbehaviour by attendants of the patient, he was brutally attacked by these attendants. The attendants included 6-8 people who attacked the doctor on the face, which resulted in a fracture of the nasal bone.

The union has said that despite so many incidents regarding the failure of security especially for female residents, no concrete action has been taken by the authorities.

"We hereby request you again:- 1. To file an institutional FIR against the culprit and pursue their arrest at the earliest. 2. To ensure adequate security in all wards as has been promised multiple times in the past," reads the URDP statement.

"In view of lack of adequately secure environment for functioning, we will be forced to stall work impacting patient care. We sincerely hope that these genuine demands will be immediately met to instill confidence in healthcare professionals," added the statement.

FORDA India tweet reads, "APPALLING! Female resident doctor and nursing staff attacked at GMC Patiala & another JR3 suffered a nasal bone fracture. Patient attendants or monsters? When’ll @MoHFW_INDIA pay heed to the demand of #DoctorsProtectionAct! @AAPbalbir @AAPPunjab @BhagwantMann @OfficeOf_MM @GmcRda"
