Healthcare facilities must be affordable during pandemic: Jagan Mohan Reddy at Davos

While addressing a public session on ‘Future-Proofing Health System’ at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said a comprehensive healthcare system to be made available, accessible and affordable for all to face the pandemic situation.

He said nobody had anticipated a situation like Covid-19 and this called for suitable changes in the medical field, as reported by Deccan Chronicle.

“The pre/post-Covid-19 situation was an eye-opener to all of us. We took up the three-Ts -- tracing, testing and treating -- in a big way to curb its spread. As AP was a newly formed state, we were not having a modern and multi-specialty healthcare system on lines of tier-1 cities like Bengaluru, Chennai or Hyderabad," he said.

"So, after identifying such a lacunae, we carried out a door-to-door survey in 44 phases as part of preventive measures against Covid-19 and built a robust system to deliver services at the doorsteps of the people” he added.

AP govt was setting medical college in each parliamentary constituency of state

While talking about the methods adopted by his government for controlling Covid-19, he said that district hospitals, area hospitals and teaching hospitals were all geared to provide treatment and his government was setting up a medical college in every parliamentary constituency of the state with a teaching hospital affiliated to each of them.

“The presence of medical colleges as a unit in each constituency will strengthen the medical system and a budget of $2 billion has already been allocated for this”, he said, as reported by Frontline.
