Indian students studying MBBS from China file petition in Kerala High Court
Indian medical students from Kerala who are studying MBBS from China have approached the Kerala High Court for allowing them to finish practical and clinical training in India.
A parents' association of the Indian students pursuing MBBS from China has moved to Kerala High Court seeking directions for allowing these students to finish their practical and clinical training in India.
The group that approached the court consisted of 92 parents and some students as well.
Medical students enrolled in MBBS courses in China universities are only able to attend online classes as they are stranded here in India for two years due to the pandemic and are unable to go back to China due to stringent travel restrictions by China in wake of Covid-19.
The students have been protesting and demanding to complete their practical and clinical training in the country as the National Medical Commission (NMC) has made it clear that it does not recognise an MBBS degree only done online.
Students protesting; No results so far
The plight of these students continues as China has closed its border for Indian medical students. Reportedly, Kerala Medical Council (KMC) has refused to permit these medical students to pursue further studies in India, as reported by edex live.
KMC has also denied giving provisional registration certificates to the students who had completed their Foreign Medical Graduate Exam (FMGE).
A meeting with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in October 2021 had also not provided any positive outcome for the students.
The Central government had said earlier that they have been taking up the issue of these students with Chinese authorities and despite the assurances of cooperation from China government, there are still no concrete steps taken by them.
