Indians pursuing medical courses in China demand practical learning in India

Many students enrolled in the medical courses in Chinese universities are demanding practical based learning in India as currently, they are only attending online classes for their courses.

The Indian students studying medical courses from China have staged a protest outside the Press Club of India in Mumbai for demanding practical training in India.

These students were forced to come back to India during the Covid-19 outbreak early in 2020 and since then they are unable to go back due to the stringent travel restrictions in China. The students are only attending online classes offered by their universities. However, the National Medical Commission (NMC) had recently notified that it does not recognize or approve medical courses done only by online mode. Now, the students are demanding practical training in India.

Plight of students continue

Similar protests were conducted in Delhi and Kerala earlier under the banner Foreign Medical Graduates Parents Association (FMGPA) - an association of parents of medical students in foreign countries. The students had written to the concerned officials of the Ministry of External Affairs, NMC, Central Health Ministry, CMO and state health ministry to demand a smooth return to China but to no avail.

Minister of state for external affairs V Muraleedharan had said that the government of India has been talking to the Chinese authorities about the issue of the return of Indian students to China so that they can go back to their colleges and continue their studies.
