Following controversy over introduction of integrated MBBS–BAMS course at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), the institute has issued a clarification in this regard.

JIPMER in a statement has clarified that there is no plans to introduce any such programme at JIPMER as of now.

JIPMER Puducherry in a press release has stated: “It has come to the notice of JIPMER that there have been media reports regarding introduction of dual degree programme integrating MBBS and BAMS at the Institute.”

It further stated that the Institute hereby categorically clarifies that there is no move to introduce any such programme at JIPMER as of now. In its statement, the Institute has also urged the media and public to rely solely on official communication for accurate and authentic information from JIPMER.

The Indian Medical Association which has been opposing the plan for integrated courses has said that JIPMER’s clarification is a major win for IMA’s advocacy and for scientific, ethical medical practice.

IMA has been opposing Government’s move to introduce MBBS–BAMS integrated course, warning it would endanger healthcare and patient rights. IMA has also sent letter to Union Health Minister, J.P. Nadda categorically demanding withdrawal of this proposal.
