Medical education Karnataka: Students from outside the state will be taught Kannad
Karnataka government to provide Kannada language training to medical students from outside the state pursuing a medical course in Karnataka.
Many states have announced to start medical courses in their local languages and for that, textbooks are also being prepared. Now the latest is, Karanataka Education minister Dr K Sudhakar said that the students from other states pursuing medical education in Karnataka will be taught Kannada language.
“The programme to teach Kannada language to out-of-state students in all medical, para-medical and nursing colleges of the state will be implemented from the current academic year,” Sudhakar said, as reported by Hindustan Times.

He said the National Education Policy (NEP) has emphasised the use of the mother tongue in education.
“Some states have already allowed learning medical courses in the mother tongue. This is the concept of New India. Similarly, a programme to teach Kannada to all medical students will be implemented this year,” the minister added.
“We should have Karnataka within us,” he further added.
Addressing the 67th Kannada Rajyothsava celebrations in Bengaluru on Tuesday, Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said that a law will be enacted in the state by getting the bill passed in the coming session of the state legislature on the use of Kannada in all fields.

Union education ministry recently said that textbooks for medicine, nursing, and pharmacy will be offered in all major Indian languages within the next three years.
Madhya Pradesh has already introduced MBBS books in Hindi, UP has plans to start medical and engineering courses in Hindi next year, TN is working to start MBBS in Tamil, and Maharashtra is to start MBBS in Marathi. However, medical experts are not pleased with the government's decision to start medical courses in Hindi and regional languages.
