Medical Students' Association demands safe environment for women on UPUMS campus

Female interns of Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences (UPUMS) have complained of harassment by the non-PG Juniors of the institute.

Against the backdrop of the protest by female interns of Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences (UPUMS), the All India Medical Students' Association (AIMSA) has demanded a safe environment for women on campus and also the termination of the culprits. The Association has also suggested women's help centres in college.

AIMSA tweet reads, "UPUMS MEDICAL COLLEGE SAIFAI (UP) We demand of safe environment for women on campus, termination of both culprits, withdrawal of fake FIR, formation of women help centre in our college, and no locality should be given admission as NON-PG Jr in the respective department. @myogiadityanath"

UPUMS medical interns are harassed in workplace

The interns have written to the Vice Chancellor of the college and said that it is difficult to work in the medicine department due to inappropriate behaviour by two non-PG Juniors present in the department who behaved inappropriately with the female interns.

The letter reads, "It has become really difficult for all the interns to work in such a toxic and unsafe environment. If no action would be taken in such a serious matter as soon as possible, it wouldn't be possible for all of us to work with such people who are more predators than humans, and have no dignity or no respect towards females who are also their professional juniors."

In another similar incident, a final year PG student of a government dental college in Mumbai also made sexual allegations against the head of the department.
