MGM Medical College Indore: Police identify 10 accused of ragging

After more than four months of the alleged ragging incident in Indore’s government-run Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) medical college, the police have identified the 10 students who were reportedly involved in this incident, said an official.

Sanyogitaganj police station in-charge Tehzeeb Qazi said, "10 accused students have been identified, but they are not arrested yet, the police have been given a deadline of December 15 to file a charge sheet in the case," as reported by The Print.

The medical college’s dean Dr Sanjay Dixit said that the police were yet to submit the list of students accused of ragging.“We will take action after getting the list of these students,” he said and claimed that the incident occurred outside the college premises and its hostels.

The background

The case of ragging was registered on July 24 this year. The college management lodged a complaint after it received a complaint from the University Grants Commission’s helpline number.

Based on the formal complaint lodged by an employee of MGM Medical College, the police had in July registered a case against unidentified senior students of the institute.

The accused students had allegedly ragged their juniors by making them perform some obscene acts, stated the complaint. A detailed probe in this matter has revealed clues to support the allegation that during ragging, some senior students asked juniors to perform obscene acts and force them to follow some other directives, confirmed the police.
