Q&A Icon
Commonly asked questions
Q:   Is it necessary to pass in individual sections of NEET?
A:

There will be no sectional qualifying criterion for NEET 2025. NTA releases overall qualifying marks or cutoff marks for each category. The overall marks will be considered while preparing the rank list for NEET. But to ensure a good score, candidates must ensure a high number of attempts with full accuracy. A skewed performance might hamper the overall marks obtained in NEET.

Q:   Will marks be deducted for unanswered questions in NEET?
A:

No, marks are not deducted for unanswered questions in NEET. However, the NTA applies negative marking of 1 mark for each incorrect answer in the NEET UG examination.

Q:   What is the correct way of answering the NEET question paper?
A:
Candidates will be provided with OMR sheets. They will have to shade the correct answer option corresponding to each question uniformly with a ballpoint pen which would be provided to them inside the exam hall. They should fill only one answer option circle, otherwise, the response will be considered as wrong and would result in negative marking. They will have to do the rough work on the NEET question paper, in the space provided. While answering the NEET question paper on the OMR sheet, candidates must be careful that they select the correct question number and fill up the correct answer option. There are cases where candidates solve the question and deduce the correct option, but make a mistake while filling the OMR sheet by not checking the question number or the answer option carefully. Such mistakes can cause a negative marking of one mark.

During an investigation, it was found that approximately 400 questions reached students atleast 42 hours before the examination. SOG Additional Director General Vishal Bansal confirmed that approximately 120 questions from the guess paper were similar to the questions asked in the examination on May 3. The questions were mainly from the Biology and Chemistry sections. Reports suggested that students who had solved those answers correctly would be able to get 600 marks out of 720.

NEET 2026 Paper Leak Update: NTA Releases Clarification
