The NEET-PG students are demanding exam to be postponed by two months to July.

Supreme Court of India

An association of medical students has decided to approach the apex court, the Supreme Court of India, requesting postponement of the medical entrance examination, NEET-PG.

All India Medical Students’ Association will approach the Supreme Court tomorrow, on May 4 for postponing the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-PG) 2022, as the counselling process for NEET-PG 2021 is not yet over.

The students are demanding exam to be postponed by two months to July. NEET-PG exam is scheduled to be held on May 21 for admission to various postgraduate courses like Doctor of Medicine, Master of Surgery and diploma courses at various government and private medical colleges in the country.

Over 5000 medical interns are yet to complete their internship thus making them ineligible for the entrance test. The aspirants have stated that as many as 5000 interns from Kerala, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand will be ineligible to write the NEET PG due to a delay in the completion of their internship owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The students are claiming that the NEET-PG 2021 is likely to end on May 3 after a fresh mop-up round, thus leaving little time for aspirants to prepare. The NEET PG 2021 AIQ is expected to end on May 3 after holding a fresh mop-up round, state mop-up rounds and stray vacancy rounds.

The students are of the view that there will be insufficient time for the remaining PG aspirants to prepare for the NEET PG 2022 exam, which is expected to be held on May 21.

The students are demanding NEET PG 2022 exams to be postponed by two months to provide sufficient time for the students to prepare for the exams and also provide an opportunity for the serving interns from the aforementioned five states to appear for the exam this year itself.
