NEET SS 2024 postponement decision by NMC has been affirmed by the Apex Court owing to no harm due to the deferment of the super speciality exam to next year.ย

NEET SS 2024

The Supreme Court has decided not to intervene with the National Medical Commission's (NMC) decision not to conduct the NEET SS exam in 2024. The Apex Court affirmed NMC's decision to postpone the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Super Speciality.

A bench including Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud and justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra has found that at least 40% of the candidates who appear for NEET SS are from the most recent graduating batch. Besides, SC observed that the students who have appeared in the previous NEET SS exam would not be harmed in any way in case the examination is postponed to the academic session 2025.ย

However, conducting the NEET SS exam in academic session 2024 would harm 2021 post-graduate batch students as their course will be completed by January 2025; denying an opportunity for them to appear for the examination.ย

The SC bench held that the NMCโ€™s decision is โ€œfairly equitableโ€ and cannot be considered โ€œarbitrary, as reported by Hindustan Times.ย

The Supreme Court has simultaneously accepted the petitioner's request for the NEET SS schedule by NMC. The bench ordered the schedule to be announced within 30 days considering the number of students completing the PG course in January 2025 and ordered the exam to be held within the first three months of January 2025.ย
