NEET SS Counselling 2024: Doctors Demand Additional Counselling Round to Fill Vacant Seats

NEET SS Counselling 2024 is in the spotlight as doctors across the country are urging authorities to hold an extra round of NEET SS counselling to fill the remaining vacant super-speciality seats, as even after the third counselling round, approximately 400+ seats are still vacant, leaving aspirants worried about their admissions.
Previously, over 1500 super speciality seats were lying vacant even after two rounds of NEET SS counselling 2024. As a result, doctors urged the authorities to reduce the NEET SS 2024 cutoff in order to provide more students with the opportunity to participate in the counselling process. Consequently, the NBEMS reduced the NEET SS 2024 qualifying percentile for the stray round of counselling and allowed all qualified candidates to participate in the NEET SS counselling 2024, as reported by Medical Dialogues.
Reportedly, around five hundred super speciality seats are still lying vacant even after three rounds of counselling. Resultedly, students are urging authorities to conduct another round of counselling of NEET SS 2024 in order to ensure no seat remains vacant during the session 2025-26. The students have been requesting the authorities to conduct one more round of NEET SS 2024 counselling, assuming that an extra round would give candidates another chance to get their preferred seats and also help the government fill the remaining vacant seats.
The NEET SS counselling is conducted approximately one month after the declaration of the result. As per the dates announced by MCC, the NEET SS 2024 counselling process was originally scheduled from May 13, 2025, to July 7, 2025. However, after the first two rounds, the third round was postponed. MCC released the dates for NEET SS 2024 counselling stray round or Round 3 on July 21, 2025. The counselling process was conducted from July 24 to August 5, 2025.
There is no limit on the number of choices that a candidate can fill during the counselling of NEET SS counselling. These choices submitted and locked should be in the order of preference as desired by the candidate. It must be noted choices have to be locked in the given deadline otherwise it gets automatically locked. Candidates are advised to fill choices carefully as it can't be modified once its locked, or the deadline is over. Seats will be allotted based on choice declared by candidates and other factors.

There are approximately three to four rounds of counselling for the NEET SS exam. This year also, it can be expected that there will be three rounds of NEET SS counselling.
